Hey guys, wanted to share a side project that I finally released called Home Audio Sync. I’ve wanted a whole-home audio setup for years but I couldn’t justify spending thousands on proprietary hardware. I have speakers in my office upstairs, a receiver on the main floor, and surround sound in the basement and I just wanted a way to use them all together. Now I'm connecting the receivers to computers, leaving those connected to the server, and then connecting on my phone and controlling all of it from there. As long as the devices are connected they are triggered to play from the server and you get music where you want. I figured there had to be a way to just utilize old phones, tablets, and laptops I already have lying around so I built a web app where you open a room, drag in your music, and scan a QR code on any other device to lock them into the same audio stream. No apps to install, it just plays directly through the browser. Getting the synchronization right was tough and there are still some pieces I need to work through. TVs are tricky to deal with as are Bluetooth devices and both of these are really necessary for this to work. It works pretty seamlessly for any devices that can load and play quickly. It's mostly focused on listening to your own music but it is integrated with youtube to pull in songs you don't have (assuming the video owners let it play in embedded players). I would love to add streaming integrations in time but there are some technical difficulties with that Let me know if you run into any bugs!
